On the roof of Frederiksberg Allé 41, a new landmark for Frederiksberg will be introduced.
With the help of a number of foundations, the top of the building will be decorated with the work "Balance of Time" created by the internationally recognized artist Jeppe Hein.
The art installation has been developed by Jeppe Hein in collaboration with building owners NRE Group A/S and unionkul, Frederiksberg Municipality and the cultural agency Creator Projects. The financing is provided by generous gifts from a number of foundations.
Jeppe Hein has created the work specifically for Frederiksberg Allé 41. The artwork consists of a large mirror ball with a diameter of 2.4 meters, that will slowly circulate around balancing on the edges of the building roof.
The ball's journey takes 60 minutes, so it positions itself at the corner of Frederiksberg Allé and Platanvej every full hour.
As a tribute to the rest of the iconic avenue's towers, Balance of Time will be placed on the roof of the newly built Frederiksberg Allé 41 and thereby mirror the other towers of the avenue, which are reflected in the work's surface. Jeppe Hein's artwork will inscribe the street’s newest building in the history of Frederiksberg and at the same time point towards the future.
Mayor Michael Vindfeldt (S) looks forward to the inauguration of the work of art in the spring of 2023: "Frederiksberg Allé is one of the most beautiful areas we have in the city, and this is mainly due to the beautiful and characteristic towers that adorn the buildings along the avenue. During the construction of Frederiksberg Allé 41, the idea arose to place a unique landmark on the roof as a counterpart or 'greeting' to the towers. Now it has finally been possible to finance the artwork with good help from a number of foundations. I am both happy and grateful for that, and I look forward to crowning the building with Jeppe Hein's beautiful art installation", he says.
Chairman of the culture and leisure committee Lotte Kofoed (SF) is also pleased: "I am very happy that we are getting what can be called a new cultural destination in the city with Jeppe Hein's impressive work of art "Balance of Time", which at the same time is a nice greeting to the many travelers who get on and off the metro from the station under the building. Having the artwork inaugurated is the culmination of many years of work, in which the former municipal councils have also had an important part. I would like to acknowledge that work", she says.
Jeppe Hein graduated from the Royal Danish Academy of Fine Arts in 1997 and from the Städelschule in Frankfurt. Currently he has a studio in Berlin. Hein has built a great international career and is particularly recognized for his ambitious installations, which move in the intersection between architecture, installation, sculpture, and design.
