The cutting of the first sod is now done at the new ALPI freight terminal in Hammerum. Mayor Lars Krarup took part in the event together with Bo Olesen, NRE Denmark, the youngest ALPI student Casper Ladefoged Sørensen as well as Niels Arne Markussen, ALPI.
ALPI is moving from Lind to Hammerum - the first stage is the freight terminal of 7900 sqm. The next stage is storage facilities of 8000 sqm and an office building of 3500 sqm.
CEO Niels Arne Markussen, ALPI was pleased and proud that the construction has now officially started. – We have been looking forward to this day ever since we decided to build a new freight terminal a year ago. The process of chosing the right solution has been very exciting but also time consuming. Now we leave the building safely to NRE Denmark so that the first stage is ready to be handed over to us by summertime 2016.
Mayor Lars Krarup expressed a great satisfaction with the construction in Hammerum - ALPI is an important company who is committed to our local and regional area and I hope that you will continue your commitment here, said Lars Krarup.
Bo Olesen from the turn-key contractor NRE Denmark commented on the rainbow which this day ended at the construction site. Bo Olesen said that it had to be a good sign for the future of ALPI - we all know what lies at the end of the rainbow.
The third ALPI location
It all began back in 1992 at Hammershusvej in Herning - here Niels Arne Markussen and some of his former colleagues from Samson Transport founded ALPI in Danmark. In the beginning three employees handled the transportations between Denmark and Italy. In 1997 a new office building and freight terminal was built in Lind. Throughout the years the location in Lind has been expanded as the activities and number of employees grew, and at present there are 100 employees in Lind. The new building in Hammerum will not only be the third location for ALPI in Herning Municipality it will also be the largest. When fully built it will be twice the size of the present location in Lind.
Future buildings – future employees
According to Niels Arne Markussen the size of the new freight terminal (20,000 sqm) gives an indication of the future growth in the company. We will have the best possibilities for handling goods in the new freight terminal and we will get the opportunity to further develop our business. We have chosen to establish the new terminal in Herning where it all startet back in 1992, says Niels Arne Markussen.
As a clear sign of the future and the future employees, some of the present ALPI students took part in the cutting of the first sod.
